The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said that his government has not done any of the developmental projects with any political bias. According to him, suggestions from legislators of all political parties are treated based on financial viability. He spoke after allegations by the AIADMK opposition in the Assembly.
With regard to the claims made by AIADMK leader and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Stalin said MLAs from AIADMK have been proposing development initiatives and these initiatives had been implemented without discrimination. Referring to a specific case, the Chief Minister said that when AIADMK MLA Dr. C. Vijayabaskar does not submit his proposal list of works, the government approached him and got in writing from him, making sure that his constituency needs were met by the government.
Stalin also insisted that the projects approved by the government are always those selected based on the criteria of financial viability and those impressed upon by the legislators, impartially in terms of party affiliation. He also reassured that to monitor progress he would himself be reviewing the development works every two months.
Palaniswami had claimed earlier that some of these proposals under the Ungal Thoguthiyan Mudhalamaichar scheme were being turned down under the pretext of lack of funds. Referring to such an example, he mentioned that a request to build a school building was supposedly denied and that this process was apparently biased in approving projects.
The Chief Minister assured the Assembly that the government remains committed to fair governance, for which the developmental initiatives must benefit from merit and prudent financial allocations. The opposition’s claims have been dismissed by him as the administration’s top priority is inclusive growth without political favouritism.
