Tirupati Laddus: A petition has been filed by advocate Satyam Singh raising concerns over the problems and mismanagement in the operation of the Tirupati temple. He has demanded that a committee comprising a former Supreme Court judge be formed to investigate the criminal conspiracy against the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust.
A four-hour purification ritual was conducted at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam shrine to appease Lord Venkateswara Swamy amid allegations of mixing animal fats in Tirupati laddus. The ritual was aimed at propitiating Lord Venkateswara Swamy from the alleged sacrilegious practices such as mixing animal fats in making Tirupati laddus and others.
The petitioner alleged in his petition that animal fat, fish oil and other non-vegetarian ingredients have been used in the Laddu Prasadam at Tirumala. This is not only a serious violation of Hindu religious customs but has also hurt the religious sentiments of many devotees.
It has also been said that adulteration of Tirumala Tirupati Balaji temple’s prasad with animal fat is a violation of Article 25 of the Constitution, which provides the right to freedom of religion. In view of this serious matter, the state Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has formed an SIT so that the matter can be properly investigated.
To state briefly, the controversy arises out of a lab report made public by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as per which, samples of ghee supplied to Tirupati temple for preparation of laddus during the term of the previous YSRCP government were found to contain foreign fats (including beef fat and fish oil).
