Veteran actor of the Balika Vadhu fame, Surekha Sikri died of cardiac arrest today morning. The 75-year-old was suffering from several health issues from the past few months and had also suffered a brain stroke in 2020.

Her manager informed the world about the demise of the legendary actress.  “Three-time national award-winning actress Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram”, he said.

Tributes poured in from the Bollywood industry and the TV fraternity over the demise of the three-time National Award winner. Neena Gupta shared an emotional video on her Instagram handle recalling her moments with the senior from the Nation School of Drama (NSD). “A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved…sol thought of sharing my sorrow with you all. I saw her for the first time during my course at NSD. As a student, I used to watch her perform on the stage and then used to tell myself that one day I have to become an actress like her,” Neena said in the video. 

For the unversed, Neena had shared screen space with Surekha Sikri in ‘Badhaai Ho’ (2018). Sharing her experience of working with Surekha Sikri, Neena stated that the late actor did not leave any stone unturned to give her best in any shot.

Best known to the contemporary audiences as “Dadisa” the Delhi borne artist began her Bollywood career as a graduate from NSD.

Surekha Sikri made her debut in 1978, with the film Kissa Kursi Ka. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice, for her roles in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018). She was last seen in director Zoya Akhtar’s short film in the Netflix anthology Ghost Stories.
