Kupwara: Three army personnel were injured during an exchange of fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashir’s Kupwara district on Saturday. This is the second encounter in the district in the last three days. The gunfight erupted at the Kumkadi post in the Machil sector of the Trehgam area during an anti-militancy operation by security forces.
“There has been exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector on the line of control. One Pakistani person has been killed while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated”, informed Chinar Corps on X. Operations are still underway.
According to a senior police officer, “when security forces challenged the militants, they opened fire, leading to a retaliatory gunfight”. The officer added that one militant has been killed so far and at least three army soldiers have sustained injuries. The exchange of fire continues, and the injured soldiers are being evacuated to the nearest medical facility.
Earlier, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid in Kupwara’s Keran sector and killed two terrorists while on July 14, three terrorists were killed in another infiltration in Keran.
A terrorist was killed and Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) was injured during an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the Kupwara district.
