In response to a molten liquid throw targeting a padayatra in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi, on Saturday, AAP leader and former CM Arvind Kejriwal blamed the BJP for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. Speaking at the press conference held on Sunday, Kejriwal called the incident a major act of negligence on the part of the BJP government that did not guarantee security to the people.
Kejriwal said, “The liquid thrown on me was all right, but it could be something more dangerous. This is the third time someone has attacked me in the last 35 days.” He also accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of sending a dangerous message by police arresting the complainants and not the offenders.
The AAP chief also pointed to arrested AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, who had previously accused MHA of reporting extortion by gangsters. “They are not arresting criminals; instead, what they are doing is to arrest our MLAs. This is in a bid to try and scare those who stand against the acts of lawlessness,” Kejriwal said, adding that the culprits should be dealt with to restore the trusting faith.
The AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal has called for the resignation of the state police chief as the crime rate in Delhi has gone up, with cases of extortion, shooting, and violence recorded recently. There is also the incidence where one feels that gangsters are slowly taking over the city. They recently fired in Nangloi and when I attempted to go there, BJP people prevented me from proceeding. Business people constantly have sleepless nights waiting for the day they will be called and subjected to forced contributions. A 64-year-old man was killed by a sharp-cutting tool. Senior citizens and women are living in constant fear,” he said.
The AAP chief said that he would go to Tilak Nagar, where some days ago, one person opened fire in shops and left the people there terrified. He even argued that it was the poor governance that led to poor safety in the city and the need for better control to protect the people of Delhi. The AAP leader further affirmed that they should keep raising such issues and said that the concern should be to protect the people rather than targeting rivals.
