Telangana: Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday wrote to PM Modi, urging him to permit medical students returning from Ukraine to join colleges in India in equivalent semesters by providing an exemption from the existing regulators.
He also suggested one-time permission for proportionately increasing the number of seats per college to accommodate those displaced.
According to reports, there are more than 20,000 Indian students who have been dislocated from Ukraine due to the war. Most of them are from middle-class families which will lose their lifetime savings without any hope of completing the medical education of their children. You will agree that everything possible should be done to safeguard their future,”- the letter read.
According to reports by the Telangana state govt, around 700 students hailed from here. CM in his letter informed that the state govt had decided to bear the medical college fees by the state govt.
Ukraine has been a popular destination of migration for education purposes, especially medicine, because of its European standard of living but with low cost yet internationally recognized academic courses. With the Russian invasion, the life and safety of several students have been threatened inevitably. Notably, under Operation Ganga 23,000 thousand students were evacuated via 90 flights, 76 out of which were for civilians and 14 were Indian Air Force flights from war-struck Ukraine.
