The most surprising event happened when the father of the Wing Commander Namansh Syal heard the awful news of the tragic Tejas aircraft crash through the most unimaginable means, that is, when he was simply scrolling through YouTube to watch the various videos about the Dubai Airshow. According to an official release by the Indian Air Force, Wing Commander Syal, a pilot of the Indian Air Force died on Friday when the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Mk-1) got into a crash during a demonstration flight.
The father of the pilot Jagan Nath Syal stated that he had opened a YouTube in order to see the news and the shows going on at the current airshow in the world. Then he suddenly came across news reports of the visuals and headlines of the Tejas crash. Talking to The Indian Express, he admitted that he was shocked: “However, on YouTube, I was seeking any video about the current air show in Dubai when, around 4 pm today, I heard news about the plane crash.
He remembered that he was talking to his son a day before the incident. In their discussion, Wing Commander Namansh Syal had excitedly informed him that he should be watching his show on television during airshow or on YouTube. The father claimed that he had been looking forward to watch the flight demonstration and he never thought that he would be faced with news of the tragic accident thus taking place in the life of his son.
Upon hearing this, Jagan Nath promptly made a call to his daughter in law who happens to be a serving Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force. As soon as he noticed the news, he was afraid of the worst and contacted her to reassure and comfort her.
It has been this sudden way the family was informed of the crash that has contributed to the emotional impact of the tragedy. With the tributes being paid to Wing Commander Syal, the incident has highlighted the dangers that lie on the path of military aviators who fly the high-intensity demonstration flights in international events such as Dubai Airshow.
