New Delhi: The IMD issued alert across North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and portions of Karnataka predicting light to moderate and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated regions.As per the notice issued by the Met Dept.the Depression over Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards, crossing north TN & south Andhra early on Friday.

Following the alert today, local authorities reported death of nine people in Pernambet, Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district, after a house collapsed due to heavy rain.Four women, four children, and one man were among those who died while fast asleep, officials reported. Firefighters and police officers were engaged for the evacuation of the injured. Nearly eight have were injured and being provided medical aif at the Peranmbet Government Hospital, according to reports from the source. Meanwhile, the bodies have also been sent to the Government Hospital for postmortem.

Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an advisory for the dam operators to keep strict vigil and release water carefully. It has also engaged officials to pump out water using motor pumps across various parts of the city complaining of waterlogging following incessant rainfall.Earlier on Thursday, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Tirupati, inundating low-lying areas, disrupting vehicular and air traffic and plunging the temple town into darkness. The downpour caused severe hardships to pilgrims as the landslides forced the authorities to close roads leading to Sri Venkateswara temple atop Tirumala. Moreover an outage took over the city in the afternoon as the sub station flooded.
