A suspected drone explosion early Thursday morning has raised security concerns for Gujarat’s Khavda region near the India-Pakistan border. The incident took place at about 6 am and according to the reports it involved a drone flying unmanned drone that, reportedly has smashed into a high-tension power line with a resulting loud explosion that panicked the locals and a swift action from the security agencies.
The local authorities sought out the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF), who sent teams to the site and alerted them immediately. Upon arrival, they found debris that was reminiscent of a drone’s parts. The found fragments have been seized by the Air Force to conduct a detailed investigation. There was news concerning an explosion in the area. “We informed the teams from the BSF and the IAF, who came to the place and found an object that looked like a drone. It has been taken over by the Air Force, and they are investigating the matter,” said Vikas Sunda, Superintendent of Police, Kutch (West).
Although no injuries to civilians or damage to civilian property have been documented, the incident has stimulated security work on the border. The nature of the origin of the drone is unclear, and authorities have so far failed to verify whether the drone was launched from across the international border.
With the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan after the recent military advancement, the security forces have considerably amplified surveillance and observation on the border. The Khavda region, which was closer to Pakistan, became a sensitive region in history that has always demanded vigilance.
As the investigation proceeds, officials are oriented toward ascertaining whether the drone was a threat of surveillance or dealt with a hostile provision. Indian Air Force and the intelligence agencies are poring over the mangled pieces of debris for clues on its make, flight path, and purpose.
