New Delhi: President of India, Droupadi Murmu was honored with Suriname’s highest civilian award during her three-day state visit to the country. Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi presented her with the prestigious ‘Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star’ at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. This award symbolizes the deep-rooted bilateral ties between India and Suriname.
President Murmu expressed her gratitude to President Santokhi and the Surinamese government for bestowing this honor upon her. She emphasized the significance of this recognition, not only for herself but also for the more than 1.4 billion people of India. She dedicated the award to the Indian-Surinamese community, acknowledging their pivotal role in strengthening the fraternal bonds between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs shared the news on social media, describing the award as a reflection of the enduring India-Suriname ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his congratulations to President Murmu for this remarkable achievement. He tweeted, “Congratulations to Rashtrapati Ji on being conferred the highest civilian award of Suriname – Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star. This special gesture from the Government and the people of Suriname symbolizes the enduring friendship between our countries.”
