New Delhi: India recorded 7,350 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.37 per cent accounted for 7,973 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,41,30,768. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.86 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 70 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 91,456; lowest in 561 days accounting for 0.26 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 825 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 202 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,75,636.
On Sunday, India’s Omicron tally reached 38 as two states of the Southern belt detected their first Omicron case. Health authorities at Kerala reported the infected COVID individual to be passenger from UK. “An Omicron case has been reported in Kerala. A UK returnee from Ernakulam is the one who tested positive. He arrived via Abu Dhabi. He tested negative in the initial test and positive in a test done on December 8. All 149 passengers including the high risk passengers who were near him on the flight have been informed,” Veena George Health Minister. Meanwhile in AP, a 34-year-old foreign traveller, who arrived from Ireland to Visakhapatnam, was found positive of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 133.17 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 19.10 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
