New Delhi: India recorded 7,992 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.36 per cent accounted for 9,265 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,41,14,331. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.64 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 68 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 93,277; lowest in 559 days accounting for 0.27 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 1666 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 393 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,75,128.
The Omicron caseload of the country projects upward after Maharashtra reported seven new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Friday including a three-and-half-year-old girl. Police authorities at the financial capital, have imposed Section 144 over the weekend to curb the spread and maintain law and order. Meanwhile, the national capital also reported its second Omicron case in a passenger from Zimbabwe. The fresh tally of Omicron cases in India now stands at 33 health officials informed.
The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) under the Central Drugs Standard control organization on Friday did not recommend Serum Institute of India’s (SII) application for Covishield booster dose, sources said.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 131.99 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 76.36 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
