The Supreme Court Thursday reserved its order on the bail plea of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son, who is one of the accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
“We will pass orders,” the bench said.
A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice J K Maheshwari heard submissions from Additional Advocate General for Uttar Pradesh Garima Prashad, and senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Dushyant Dave.
UP Additional Advocate General Garima Prashad told a bench of Justices Surya Kant and J K Maheshwari that the state was opposing the bail plea of Mishra. Terming the crime “grave and heinous”, she said granting the accused any relief will send a “wrong signal”.
On the last date of the hearing, the apex court had asked the state to appraise the status of the accused in the other FIR registered regarding the alleged violence by the protesters as well. On Thursday, Prashad informed the court that all the accused in both FIRs are in custody.
