Supreme Court rejects plea for postponement of NEET and JEE; ‘Life cannot be stopped’, says SC

The Supreme Court announced that the medical entrance exam NEET and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering in IITs and NITs are going to be held as per schedule.

The top court verbalized “The careers of students cannot be put under jeopardy.” The petition was filed by 11 students to postpone the exams due to the corona virus crisis but the petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Both the NEET and JEE exams are scheduled to be held in September. Justice Arun Mishra headed a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court verbally expressed “Life cannot be ceased. We have to move ahead with all safeguards and all… Are students wasting one whole year? Inculcation should be opened up. COVID may perpetuate for a year more. Are you going to wait another year? Do you know what the loss to the country and peril to the students is?”

The 11 students from 11 different states had filed the petition. They had wanted the ascendant entities to be asked to conduct the exams only after the normalcy is recuperated. The students sought to increment the number of examination centres for NEET and JEE across the country.

The lawyer Alak Alok Srivastava who represented the students argued that the students are looking to the Supreme Court for palliation.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented the National Testing Agency (NTA) apprised the court that all safeguards will be taken for conducting the exams.

The JEE is scheduled from September 1 to 6 and the NEET exam is scheduled for September 13.
