New Delhi: The Government is looking forward to finding ways in which Same-sex couples will be able to receive social benefits like the couples usually have. The Supreme Court made this plea and clarified that Gay marriages would be legalised soon.
People have made many appeals and petitions to legalise and protect same-sex marriages. After looking at these petitions, the petitioners have also asked the Indian Government about how they’ll be able to find some solutions.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said, “We take your point that if we enter this arena, this will be an arena of the legislature. So, now what? What does the government want to do with ‘cohabitory’ relations? And how a sense of security and social welfare is made? And to ensure that such relations are not ostracised?”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opposed some of these petitions and said that these marriages are not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of a husband, a wife and children. The hearings, in this case, have been going on for a long and are expected to end soon.
