The Supreme Court of India launched its official website portal, which displays asset declarations from active judges for the very first time as a part of its initiative to improve transparency and judicial accountability. The official website contains 21 financial statements of 33 sitting judges led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna and three future Chief Justices-in-waiting as of Monday. The declarations destined for public release will be posted at the time they reach the court.

A critical administrative move was implemented by the judges of the Supreme Court following their April 1 full court meeting, during which all members agreed to disclose their assets to the public instead of sending them confidentially to the CJI. The decision to release declaration data occurs during ongoing scrutiny by judicial institutions of Justice Yashwant Varma following his alleged capture of unexplained cash at his judicial chambers.

CJI Sanjiv Khanna possesses a total of ₹55.75 lakhs in bank deposits and PI accounts, together with ₹1.06 crore stored in his Public Provident Fund (PPF). Delhi is home to the DDA flat and a four-bedroom apartment in the Commonwealth Games Village, which he owns.

Before taking office as CJI on May 14, Justice B.R. Gavai revealed having ₹6.59 lakh in PPF and ₹19.63 lakh in bank deposits, together with inherited and owned properties situated across Maharashtra and Delhi. The reported financial liabilities of his assets amounted to ₹1.3 crore.

Justice Surya Kant maintains financial assets, including fixed deposits that total over ₹6 crore while he has properties distributed among Chandigarh, Gurugram and Delhi. The justice declared investments of ₹1.5 crore alongside property ownerships situated in Noida and Prayagraj.

Justice KV Viswanathan raised attention among the group with investment holdings of ₹120.96 crore combined with ₹91.47 crore in income tax payments spanning from 2010 through 2025.

By releasing asset-related information regularly, the judiciary advances its commitment toward transparency in India’s judicial system.
