New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court also said that it will take a suo motu case with regard to the rape and murder of a resident doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on October 1. This case arrived at the backdrop of the constant agitation made by doctors in West Bengal in the aftermath of the unfortunate event. In the course of the morning session, a counsel for one of the parties asked to transfer the hearing scheduled for September 27 to the next week for urgent circumstances. Normally, Yes, please, Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud said, “We will list it for hearing next Tuesday, that is the 1st of October.”
According to the report of the CBI submitted on September 17, the honourable Supreme Court of India expressed its concern about the findings made. However, the court did not disclose more information, citing that the disclosure may hinder prospection investigations. The CBI was earlier instructed to submit a fresh status report on charges of financial embezzlement involving the arrested ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh. The court said that CBI is not being negligent in the investigations as it requires time to ‘dig out the truth’.
The lawyer who protested about the discrepancies between the list of seizures and the sketch of the crime scene was told this in the following comment by the court, angry with what the CBI has presented in the report: ‘What the CBI has revealed in the report is truly disturbing’. The Supreme Court also pointed out that the situation is rather urgent, while addressing people’s concerns over the protection of doctors and bias investigations. The hearing that is expected to occur in the near future is expected to reveal these serious issues and their implication to the medical practitioners in the region.
