On Monday, the Supreme Court allowed YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to resume uploading his podcasts and shows on social media. Finally, he made this decision weeks after the apex court forced him to stop airing his content, after controversy regarding his comments on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’
Widespread criticism was triggered after Allahbadia was termed crass and offensive by his comments on the show. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell then registered a case of obscenity against him and others. On Monday, Allahbadia was called to the Maharashtra Cyber officials to record his statement on the case.
Allahbadia admitted his mistake while being interviewed and stated that his remarks were inappropriate, an official said. The official added that he said he regrets the comments and why he is drawing fire.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court directed that Allahbadia’s content and legal obligations in five key areas:
- Allahabadia must undertake his podcast, The Ranveer Show, to ensure that it is suitable for all age groups.
- For now, the court also denied his request to travel abroad. However, he may get permission if he fully cooperates in the ongoing investigation.
- Discussion of Case: Allahbadia cannot discuss the India’s Got Latent controversy on The Ranveer Show.
- Conditions for resuming The Ranveer Show: While he can resume The Ranveer Show podcast, but under the condition that it is aired in accordance with the standards of decency.
- Allahbadia must be forthcoming with the probe and abide by the court’s conditions.
Allahbadia can continue with his work on some condition, and this is provided by the Supreme Court’s ruling, while keeping responsible content creation.
