Strong Winds and Light Rain Likely to Improve the Air Quality of the National Capital over the Next 2 Days

New Delhi: The air quality in Delhi was recorded in the ‘poor’ category at 9 AM on Friday, with an AQI of 271, while the average AQI for the last 24 hours was 284. As per the central government’s Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the air quality in the city is expected to be improved significantly over the next 48 hours, due to a predicted increase in the wind speed, accompanied by light rain, owing to a better ventilation condition.

The air quality of the neighboring cities was also recorded in the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI of Ghaziabad was at 330, Greater Noida at 322, while Noida recorded its AQI at 310. 

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 ‘poor’, between 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and between 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

According to the India Meteorological Department, “The national capital and its neighboring cities are likely to receive light rainfall on Friday and Saturday under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance passing over the Himalayas”.
