Ukraine: Indian students in Ukraine cry for help from PM Modi. Videos of students hiding in underground metro stations, serving as bomb shelters have been surfacing. Amidst rising tensions in Ukraine, several of them have fled homes while few of them still are stuck in their apartments. Nearly, 16,000 Indians are in Ukraine all of them mostly students.
In one such video of a student hailing from UPs Ballalia, the student is seen seeking help from PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath to make swift arrangements for their evacuation from the war struck land. We feel helpless. Three-four bombs have struck the city since morning. We are running low on supplies. Air routes are closed. I request Narendra Modi Ji and Yogi Adityanath Ji to make arrangements for evacuation of Indians as soon as possible,” Mr Jaiswal said in the video shot in his apartment. He did not mention which city in Ukraine he is staying in.
In another video, shared by an Indian student is seen that several people are sitting on the floors for the past 30 hours hoping for some help to arrive.
After the second Air India flight returned home midway, the MEA has been discussing alternatives to assist stranded Indians. MEA on Thursday, sorted help from neighbouring regions of Ukraine to assist evacuation through land after Ukraine issued NATOM early in the morning on Thursday. The MEA has sent forth its teams to land borders with Ukraine in Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Romania. Taking to Twitter, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared that he had spoken to his counterparts in these four countries for setting up a camp at border areas for evacuation of stranded Indian nationals. Notably, Ukraine, which is under siege from Russian forces, shares its western border with these nations.
