Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government formed two Special Task Force of three members each to investigate and also monitor the investigation into the murder of Atiq Ahmed and his brother in Prayagraj. The first SIT has been formed to investigate to murders will be headed by Assistant DCP Satish Chandra. Two other officials in the unit will be the Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Inspector rank.
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the crime, the opposition parties have now come down heavily on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government claiming that there was ‘brazen anarchy in the state’. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal raised a series of questions over the killing of Atiq Ahmed today, asking why they were being taken for a medical check-up by police at 10 PM when there was no emergency. “Atiq & Ashraf (The art of elimination) Odd: 10 PM for medical check up? No medical emergency, made victims walk, open to media?, assassins unknown to each other at the spot? Weapons above 7 lakhs, well trained to shoot!Kapil Sibal questioned in a tweet”.
A day after gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf was shot dead under police escort. Earlier on April 16, 2023 was filed in the Supreme Court seeking the constitution of an independent expert committee headed by a former apex court judge to probe the killings. The plea filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari also sought an inquiry into the 183 encounters that have taken place in the state in 2017.
