New Delhi: India recorded 9,216 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.35 per cent accounted for 8,612 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,40,45,666. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.80 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 60 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 99,976 accounting for 0.29 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise by 213 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.36 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 391 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,70,115.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is to hold a meeting today with his colleagues and health experts on how to deal with the Omicron threat shadowing the state.
Shortly, after India detected infections due to Omicron in two passengers who arrived at Karnataka, five contacts of an Omicron patient and a doctor from Bengaluru – have turned out to be Covid positive yesterday. Samples of the infected individuals have been sent for genome sequencing.
One out of the two infected, is a 66-year-old man, who has received both vaccine doses, travelled from South Africa on November 20 with a negative Covid report. He tested positive on arrival and was asymptomatic, following which he was told to self-isolate. A week later (with a negative Covid report from a private lab) he flew to Dubai. The other individual is a health care worker from Bengaluru who developed symptoms (fever and body ache) on November 21. He tested positive the following day and was admitted to hospital.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Family Health and Welfare, so far 125.75 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country , including 73.67 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. ICMR cumulatively screened 64.46 cr infected samples.
