The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry, has expressed a desire to strengthen the country’s ties with India. He specifically mentioned areas of cooperation such as electricity, energy, tourism and port shipping connectivity. In an interview with news agency ANI, Minister Sabry highlighted India’s position as one of the world’s growing and largest economies, underscoring the importance of regional growth.
Minister Sabry emphasized the opportunities that Sri Lanka sees in its relationship with India stating that they view it as an opportunity. He expressed confidence in the potential for cooperation between the two nations and stressed Sri Lanka’s desire for a prosperous and harmonious region. Minister Sabry also emphasized the importance of having India as a prosperous neighbour.
Additionally, Minister Sabry commended India’s trajectory of growth. Expressed Sri Lanka’s eagerness to align itself with India’s path towards prosperity and peace.
Regarding the situation in Sri Lanka and India’s assistance, Minister Sabry highlighted improvements compared to previous years. These include reduced inflation rates, stable currency exchange rates, increased reserves and a resurgence in tourism. He expressed gratitude for India’s assistance. Acknowledged their role in Sri Lanka’s achievements.
Minister Sabry also shared his contentment regarding his meeting with S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister. They had a discussion on enhancing the ties between India and Sri Lanka.
