New Delhi: Days after car-manufacturer Hyundai’s Pakistan offshoot tweeted about “remembering the sacrifices” of people in Kashmir and asked for people to stand in support as these people continued to “struggle for freedom”, South Korean Foreign minister Chung Eui-Yong called up External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and “regretted the offence” caused to the people and Government of India by the social media post, Ministry of External Affairs said Tuesday.
The MEA had summoned the Ambassador of South Korea expressing displeasure over the unacceptable social media post about Kashmir. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi issued a detailed statement informing about the bilateral talks held between both the heads and the removal of the controversial social media post from the Hyundai Pakistan handle.
“The offending post had been removed subsequently. The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs yesterday 7th February 2022. The strong displeasure of the Government on the unacceptable social media post by Hyundai Pakistan was conveyed to him. It was highlighted that this matter concerned India’s territorial integrity on which there could be no compromise,” the statement further read.
The social media unit of Pakistan on the 5th February honoured those from Kashmir saying it remembered the sacrifices of the Kashmiri brothers on Kashmir Solidarity Day. The post garnered huge criticism, getting along with several other brands in the loop. Kia Motors, Pizza Hut, KFC and others faced backlash after the brands’ Pakistani social media handles tweeted out messages of support.
