As the national capital fastens seats to reopen all educational institutions from September 1, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the conduct of classes in schools, colleges, and coaching institutes. As per the order, the classrooms can be conducted with 50% capacity and a gap of one seat must be maintained in between two seats.
It further advised the students to not share books, tiffins, and any other items that need direct contact between them. Also, the schools have been instructed to conduct lunch breaks at different timings so that gathering of large student crowds can be prevented at the same time. Approval of parents to send their wards in the school is also made mandatory, without which they won’t be allowed to attend classes. A gap of one hour between the morning and day shifts of the schools has also been mentioned in the SOP.
It is also said that students and teachers coming from containment zones must not attend the educational institutions. The common area and surrounding areas of the institutes must be cleaned regularly, as instructed by the DDMA in the SOP. Vaccination of the school staff has also been considered a priority. There must be different exit and entry points to avoid crowd and rush. While Delhi is set to reopen schools and colleges, several other states are also planning to resume school operations in the next few months.
