The first meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party held in the current monsoon parliamentary session was presented by Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, publishing the importance of the forthcoming assembly elections. Gandhi underscored that the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and J&K are crucial for Congress. The care she took to point out that sustaining the endeavour and the goodwill following the Lok Sabha election was imperative.

Gandhi called on her party to be cautious and not to take comfort in the situation that was politically ripe for change. She added that purpose was to continue with the unity demonstrated during the Lok Sabha polls and said, “In the next few months, there are elections to four states and we need to maintain the sentiments generated for us during the Lok Sabha polls. If we are able to deliver and replicate what we saw in Lok Sabha politics, the politics at the national level will change.”

The address also gave rather generic statements about national matters concerning the current ruling government, such as the Union Budget and its consequences on the farming community and the youths. She observed that there were generally inadequate provisions for the aforementioned crucial sectors in the budget, resulting in disappointments among the people. For instance, in the Kerla issue, Gandhi condemned the central government for not paying attention to the increasing unemployment and the ever-increasing prices that left many families broken.

She stressed that while the heads of the state, including the prime minister, finance minister and other officials, celebrate the voodoo economics results of the budget presented to the public, there is still discontent among people. Calling Modi a pride of India and a patriot, Gandhi said that the Gujarat and UP news give no indication the government has read the BJP’s 2019 to 2024 erosion from 303 to 240.

Gandhi also spoke on the concern raised over the postponement of the national census, which was supposed to be conducted this year, 2021. She continued that this delay hinders the chances of getting current population figures.
