Sonia Gandhi, the leader of Congress has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, with several publications confirming that she felt unwell in her breathing, on Tuesday. The senior congress leader was hospitalised on Monday evening and is under observation of the medical staff. Hospital sources indicated that she was given antibiotics and other supportive drugs and she is still in good condition.
According to a statement made by the hospital, Sonia Gandhi is responding well to treatment. One of the officials at the hospital explained that the admission was a routine case and that she has been put under the care of a specialist in chest cases in case of any possible precautions. The official further stated that Gandhi has a history of chronic cough and constantly goes to the hospital to have a regular medical check-up.
Sonia Gandhi, the daughter of 79, has also previously battled respiratory problems. In response to the media, Dr Ajay Swaroop, the Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said that she was diagnosed with mildly exacerbated bronchial asthma following a thorough medical examination. He put the blame on the joint effect of cold weather and the worsening air quality of the national capital.
Mrs Gandhi had respiratory discomfort and medical examination has shown a slight exacerbation of her bronchial asthma because of cold climate and pollution. Dr Swaroop issued an official statement indicating that she was hospitalized as a precautionary measure to be observed and further medically managed. He pointed out that there was no cause to panic yet because her health parameters are normal.
The hospital has ensured that Sonia Gandhi is under close observation and she is responding to treatment positively. Although she still reacts to treatment, physicians are practicing caution, as she is older and has a medical history. Her clinical progress will be assessed in the 24-48 hours, after which she will be discharged or not depending on the decision.
