New Delhi: The illegal bar row finally concluded after the High Court on Thursday ordered Congress leaders to delete their tweets, videos and retweets accusing the Union minister’s daughter of illegal liquor outlets.
The Delhi High Court Justice Mini Pushkarna issued summons to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Netta D’Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by BJP leader Smriti Irani. They have been called to appear on August 18. The matter is also listed to be heard before the Registrar on November 15.
In the order, the court further mentioned that if the leaders failed to remove the tweet, Twitter would be authorized to do so.
The high court said “slanderous and bogus” allegations were made against Irani and added that, “Plaintiff has made out a prima facie case and balance of convenience lies in favour of the plaintiff and against the defendants”.
Irani’s action came after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over this, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet. Congress on 23rd July had demanded the minister’s removal from the cabinet.
