The Andhra Pradesh government has paused the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged adulteration of the Tirupati laddu until the next scheduled Supreme Court hearing. The development came merely a day after the Supreme Court lashed the state government for hurrying to go to the public to make claims without any conclusive proof.
Andhra Pradesh DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said that a petition was filed before the Supreme Court about the constitution of an SIT, and some arguments took place on Monday, they have been informed to stall the further proceedings until October 3.
The court told the Andhra government’s lawyers that the lab reports indicate that the ghee that was subjected to the test was the rejected sample. Further, BR Gavai asked the senior advocate Siddharth Luthra if the ghee which was not found in conformity with the standards was used for making laddus.
While hearing the petitions, the Supreme Court made it clear that religion and politics cannot be mixed. In a series of pointed questions and keen observations, the honorable court underlined the lack of definitive proof of contamination of ghee. The court also pointed to an ongoing inquiry and a false positive testing caveat.
