The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police, which is investigating the bizarre death of the popular singer, Zubeen Garg, revealed that the Singapore authorities have given an assurance to provide the key information and pieces of evidence within 10 days. The update followed a two-member SIT visit to Singapore earlier this week, as a means of liaising with the local authorities and the Indian High Commission on the matter of the investigation.
Gupta claimed that Singapore Police had told them that their full probe would take approximately 90 days, but would give them partial findings and evidence in the near future to assist the Indian probe. We underlined the significance of timely help in the sense that we have a stipulated time to submit our charge sheet in accordance with the Indian law.
The SIT team toured various localities that were associated with the last days of Garg in Singapore, to which he had travelled to attend the Northeast India Festival. The police were trying to find CCTV photos, hotel logs and other documents connected with the incident. The team has already interrogated almost 70 individuals who were related to the festival, as well as the intimate circle of Garg.
In the state of Assam in India, the wife of Zubeen, Garima Garg, gave a statement in Guwahati on Friday. The SIT has also, up to now, arrested seven people, including the cousin of Garg, on charges of his death.
The post-mortem report had been previously received by the Singapore authorities on October 1, and it had led to the conclusion that Zubeen Garg had died of drowning on September 19. Nevertheless, the police in Singapore are carrying out a similar investigation to eliminate foul play. They are expected to present their findings before the State Coroner within three months, after which a decision would be made on whether to have a Coroner Inquiry. Once final report is prepared, it will be opened up.
