Siddaramaiah, Karnataka’s chief minister, expressed his doubt about both groups – the INDIA bloc and NDA commanding sufficient seats in the Lok Sabha election, bringing them to the centre of governance. Despite the BJP’s ambitious “Abki baar 400-paar” slogan, Siddaramaiah anticipated the emergence of a “government minus BJP” at the Centre due to a prevailing “undercurrent” against the saffron party across the nation.

In an interview with agency Videos, Siddaraamaiah indicated that a silent voter phenomenon and realignment of alliances post-election could reject an alliance headed by BJP led by NDA. He stressed some points, showing that the BJP could gain more than 200 seats, though it was still not in the majority.

On the other hand, a factor that might act against the winning of the BJP is that a group of voters might question Narendra Modi on whether he has fulfilled his past election promises or not and also mention the critical issues of unemployment and the growing inflation rate in their discrimination of Modi to vote for Siddaramaiah as the next Karnataka chief minister.

On the subject of alliances, it was not surprising to hear Siddaramaiah compare JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, both considered opportunistic since they chose to align with powerful counterparts now and then. Mr Hegde castigated the JD(S) for merging with the BJP, the latter categorized as communal stepping.

Siddaramaiah also questioned the leadership within the state BJP and speculated about the future JD(S) merging with the BJP. Despite claims of JD(S) members expressing interest in joining the Congress, Siddaramaiah remained tight-lipped about specifics.
