Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah outrageously reacted to the outrageous assault on Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai in the Supreme Court compound on Monday. The president happened when the advocate Rakesh Kishore threw a shoe at the CJI in protest against remarks he had made on September 16 when he had heard a plea concerning the restoration of a headless idol at the Khajuraho Temple in Madhya Pradesh.
“I highly disapprove of the behavior of a lawyer to cast a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai.” Siddaramaiah made an official statement saying that this lawyer who has insulted the Chief Justice and the court should be arrested and legal measures taken against him.
Speaking of the importance of the way Justice Gavai worked his way up to the top of the judiciary, Siddaramaiah mentioned that the CJI is a Dalit member of the population who managed to climb the ranks of the judiciary by merit and hard work, despite social opposition. He further noted that despite the Constitution being in effect after 75 years, the caste-based inequality and intolerance still lay in the minds of those citizens who subscribe to the Manu ideology.
Siddaramaiah was in agreement with Chief Justice Gavai, in the fact that the assault on him was an assault on democracy and constitutionalism. Honourable Chief Justice B.R. Gavai is not an exception. He has millions of secular-minded citizens who hold democracy and the Constitution. The Chief Justice is not a member of any party, faith and I request the people of different castes, religions and political affiliations to unanimously criticize an incident occurring today at the Supreme Court.
The attempts to polarize the society were also increasing to which the Chief Minister warned. He noted that this is because of the activities of the caste and religious divides segmenters, propagating hatred and intolerance that persons such as Rakesh Kishore with Manuvadi thinking come into play.
