New Delhi: Speaking at the 28th National human Rights Commission Foundation (NHRC) Day Programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that looking at human rights with an eye on political gains or loss shall be harmful to democracy as well as the rights. He further added that such a “selective” approach can dent the nation’s image in the wake of human rights.

“Some people see human rights violations in some incidents but not in other similar incidents. Human rights are violated when viewed via political spectacles. Selective behavior is harmful to democracy”, said the Indian Prime Minister.

The same comments were also tweeted in a video shared by PM Modi; Addressing the 28th NHRC Foundation Day Programme.

PM Modi’s comments come amid national outrage over the killing of four farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri. There have been accusations that the prime accused in the case; a union minister’s son is being protected by the establishments. The police action came only after the Supreme Court questioned the UP government and police was hauled up.
