A terrorist was killed and one security personnel injured in a gun battle in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning. It started on Monday evening in one of the Harwan areas of the city and went on to the wee hours of Tuesday night.
The Kashmir Zone Police claimed that the operation was carried out after receiving information in the upper area of DaChigam forest related to the activities of terrorists. In a tweet, the police said, “Acting on specific inputs, joint parties of SHOs launched CASO in the higher zones of Dachigam forest. Contact established. OP is in progress. Further details shall follow @JmuKmrPolice.”
Authorities stated that security forces operations were based on intelligence information about the presence of militants. “The operations were escalated after the forces cordoned the suspected den, and there was a skirmish. These firing exchanges began during a CASO carried out by the security forces subsequent to the specific tip about the presence of terrorists in the locality. There has been enhanced security around the vicinity, which is supposed to be occupied by terrorists. Such pronouncements, the operation was resumed with the first light on Tuesday morning,” officials said.
A video from one of the encounter locales depicted security persons remaining very alert, keeping an eye on the streets and making sure that the surrounding environment was secure. The operation falls within existing efforts by the security forces in order to neutralize the menace of militancy.
The case brings out the fact that there is insecurity in Jammu and Kashmir and how much the authorities have been at the forefront of ensuring that there is order in this region. The results of the proceedings are further awaited.
