New Delhi: A grenade was spotted near a house at the Ranjit Avenue region in Amritsar on Friday. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad on reaching the area have disposed of it. The grenade was initially noticed by a resident of that region. Because of different terror threats, the intelligence agencies have issued various alerts in a span of a few days.
A high alert was released in Punjab after Police found a tiffin box fabricated into an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) from a rural area in Amritsar. The police suspect that it was a part of a shipment, delivered by a drone from Pakistan. The grenade provoked a security scant in the border areas lying ahead of Independence day celebrations on August 15.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (crime), Mukhwinder Sing Bhullar who was present on the spot said, “We found the grenade at Ranjit Avenue. It has now been disposed of by the bomb disposal squad in open land.” He further added, “Only experts can tell of the amount of loss the grenade could have caused, based on its range.”
