Prime minister Narendra Modi will open the Second Global Buddhist Summit that is to be held on January 24 and 25 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event will be conducted over two days whereby Buddhist leaders, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers alike across the world will convene to discuss critical issues in the world based on the teachings of Buddha Dhamma.
The summit, being organised by a global umbrella group of organisations known as the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), which has its headquarters in New Delhi and operates under the Ministry of Culture, is expected to have more than 200 foreign guests and close to 800 other guests. The assembly seeks to enhance the discourse between various schools of Buddhism and also to promote interaction with the world-institutions.
The second summit will be hosted with the topic of Collective Wisdom, United Voice, and Mutual Coexistence. The organisers state that the theme shows the guiding philosophy of the IBC, that is, encouraging mutual understanding and unity in order to solve modern global problems. The summit will likely continue on the conversations that were launched at the first edition and strengthen the collaboration of the Buddhist communities across the world.
IBC authorities have said that the discussions will revolve around the manner in which the core values of Buddha Dhamma can bring about significant direction to matters of social harmony, ethical economic systems, education, and medical services and environmental sustainability.
The programme will include five main thematic areas/sessions, which include: Collective Wisdom and United Voice of Social Harmony; Entrepreneurship and Right Livelihood in Buddha Dhamma; Scientific Research, Healthcare, Medicine and Sustainable Living in Buddha Dhamma; Learning in the Light of Buddha Dhamma; and Sangha Dynamics through Roles, Rituals and Practice in Buddha Dhamma.
It is believed that the summit will be a major source of encouraging dialogue, peace, and coexistence of one another in a world that is becoming more and more complicated.
