New Delhi: The Supreme Court today granted anticipatory bail to jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son Umar Ansari in an evacuee property case. A bench of Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on his plea challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court.
Earlier on April 13, the High Court had dismissed Uamr’s plea seeking anticipatory bail. It had also dismissed a plea of Mukhtar Ansari’s other son Abbas Ansari, an SBSP MLA, seeking quashing of the charge sheet in the same case.
It’s alleged that Mukhtar and his sons fraudulently acquired an enemy property in the Jiamau area of UP. A case in this regard was lodged at Jazzratganj police station in August 2020. It was pleaded on behalf of Ansari brother while the state council had opposed the plea, arguing that the duo was also accused of forging signature of their grandmother.
