New Delhi: India recorded 6,650 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.40 per cent accounted for 7,051 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,42,15,977. The number of active cases stood at 77,516 accounting for 0.22 per cent of the total number of cases.
The active cases reported a decline by 775 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.38 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 374 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,79,133.
The fast spreading Omicron infection has now infected 358 people in India, with the highest in Maharashtra with 88 cases. Southern states Telangana reports 24 cases while Karnataka, and Kerala have logged 19 and 15 cases respectively. Rajasthan which stood after Telangana logged 21 infections and Gujarat reported 14 cases.
PM Modi chairing a review meeting on COVID-19, advised the state and UTs to remain Satark and Savdhan. “In view of the new variant, we should be Satark and Saavdhan. The fight against the pandemic is not over and the need for continued adherence to COVID safe behaviour is of paramount importance even today,” said PM to officials.
The centre has directed regional heads to stay alert and vigilant at all levels as Covid cases rise in several parts of the country. PM Modi also directed the Centre to work in tandem with the states and support their measures of containment and management. A collaborative and co-operative fight strategy was pressed by Modi.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 140.31 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country including 57.44 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
