Sanjay Raut, responsible for the Shiv Sena (UBT) and a Rajya Sabha Member, criticized the Central government on Wednesday for sending MP delegations to countries unrelated to India-Pakistan political issues arising from the latest ‘Operation Sindoor’.
When speaking to a regional news channel, Raut said the Modi government spends more time on appearances and theatrical actions in its international work. Pointing out the delegation headed by Shrikant Shinde as Kalyan’s MP and leader of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Raut expressed doubt at choosing Liberia, Congo and Sierra Leone for the trip. He maintained that, for India, these countries do not matter much when it comes to Pakistan’s strategy.
The important question is what the government hopes to accomplish by sending delegations to countries that have nothing to do with the dispute between India and Pakistan. It raises doubts about why Liberia and Congo were chosen by the government, he said.
Raut pointed out that the Centre should put the highest priority on building relations with countries near India and with a significant role in regional conflicts. Should the purpose be to fight Pakistan with diplomacy post-‘Operation Sindoor’, India should organize delegations to go to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar and both China and Turkiye. Pakistan has found support from these nations in South Asia on more than one occasion. Our advocates should travel to them and clearly explain India’s viewpoints, he added.
Sanjay added that any visit outside the country should be driven by clear strategies. Sending members of parliament overseas only for show downplays the significance of our foreign affairs, he said.
