The case of the attack made on Saif Ali Khan has new developments that show the details regarding the movements of the alleged attacker, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir. The Bangladesh national alleged to have stabbed the actor in a robbery in his Bandra residence crossed the Dawki river in Meghalaya to enter India nearly seven months back, said Mumbai police investigators. Fakir produced an Aadhaar card of a West Bengal resident, which he used to get a SIM card to make the case more tricky.
The 30-year-old accused was arrested in Thane, Maharashtra, on Sunday morning, three days after the attack took place. The arrest was immediate after a struggle in which Fakir reportedly invaded Saif Ali Khan’s home and stabbed the actor six times before escaping. Cops of Mumbai Police also came to know that Fakir was changing his name and was using an alias name, Bijoy Das, after crossing Indian borders illegally.
As far as the investigation of the event that took place is concerned, more is to be learnt of Fakir, particularly about the conduct he had before undertaking the attack. Tentatively, to the police, Fakir had a SIM card registered in the name of Khukumoni Jahangir Sekh, who is from West Bengal. The police believe that Fakir used Sekh’s Aadhaar card to match that of which he needed to confirm the biometric and get the SIM card without being tracked for a longer time.
More questions have been raised as the police try to establish a flow of events that transpired. The investigation also seeks to find out all possible connections between Fakir and criminals with cross-border activities. And, as the protagonist Fakir is in police custody, the events of the case progression by now do raise questions about how susceptible personal information is to misuse and possible flaws in the systems of border protection.
