New Delhi: In a new notice today, Indian Embassy in Russia has announced to provide a ‘humanitarian corridor’ for Indian citizens as Russia declared a ceasefire from 12:30 pm Indian time. The corridor begins from Sumy in the northeast where around 700 Indians have been sending SOS messages to the GoI.
Russia has announced humanitarian corridors from Sumy by two routes to Poltava and to “the territory of the Russian Federation to Belgorod – then by air, rail and road transport to selected destinations or temporary accommodation, in the southern direction – in agreement with the Ukrainian side”.
At a United Nations Security Council meeting on the Ukraine-Russia war on Monday, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN TS Tirumurti said that a humanitarian corridor for the safe evacuation of Indian students stranded in Ukraine’s Sumy had not been opened despite India repeatedly urging both Ukraine and Russia.
PM Modi on Monday spoke to leaders of both the nations at war. During his conversation, he pressed for safe evacuation for Indian students stranded in Sumy. As per sources, Putin agreed to provide all possible assistance in the safe evacuation. So far, 83 flights under Op Ganga have brought 17,000 back home including a total of 1250 in the 7 aircraft that landed recently. In the next 24 hours, another 3 flights are scheduled to depart. Since the issuance of advisory 22,000 stranded nationals have left Ukraine.
