The build up before the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India on the 4th and 5th of December is growing with Moscow highlighting on how deep and robust the relationship between the two countries has been over the years. The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov lauded the bilateral relationships claiming it to be not just a normal diplomatic procedure or a trade agreement. He emphasized that the nature of the relationship is based on a profound historical knowledge, mutual cooperation and vision concerning global affairs, by respecting the international law and taking into account the interests of one another.

Peskov said we were proud to have been shoulder to shoulder with our Indian friends throughout their historic growth. He also thanked India on its friendly and cooperative attitude towards Russia in the bilateral and international affairs. According to Peskov, this solid background provides vast opportunities to enhance collaboration in a variety of areas.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of the Indo-Russian defence cooperation, with citing such successful projects as the BrahMos missile program. He stressed that their relationship is not limited to trade to high-technology exchanges, collaborative development, and advanced defence systems manufacturing, which signifies a sunny future of their further cooperation.

Another main aspect that was brought out by Peskov was energy security. He said that Russia has been supplying India with energy resources that were critical at reasonable prices that were beneficial to the two countries. He also mentioned sharing in investments and cooperation in peaceful nuclear power particularly the Kudankulam nuclear power project that Russia hopes to remain as a partner.

With regard to the international trade, Peskov observed that even though the tariff relations between India and other nations including America is a different issue, Russia still focuses on increasing bilateral trade with India without the influence of other countries.

In general, the statements of Peskov before the visit of President Putin indicate that Russia is determined to strengthen its strategic, economic, and defence relationships with India and the remarks indicate that the long-term cooperation between the two nations is reinforced, and the further development of the cooperation is expected.
