The Russian authorities sent Prime Minister Narendra Modi an official invitation to witness the Moscow Victory Day ceremonies that will take place on May 9, 2025. The war anniversary will commemorate the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany during World War II at its 80-year mark. According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, the official invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the May 9 2025, Victory Day celebrations was already sent and planning for his visit continued.

Rudenko informed a Russian media agency that preparations were in progress to obtain Prime Minister Modi’s participation for this year. He has an invitation.” Every year during Victory Day Russia stages its military display accompanied by war memorial celebrations at Moscow’s central Red Square.

Russia invited PM Modi, among various leaders from friendly countries, to join this momentous occasion as Moscow endeavours to enhance its diplomatic bonds with primary global partners.

India and Russia have been expanding their diplomatic relations, which led to this prestigious invitation. Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to make a trip to India during the current year. PM Modi prompted the visit when he travelled to Russia in July 2024 by extending a formal invitation. The ongoing discussions about dates reflect the solid strategic bond between Russia and India based on their mutual visits.

PM Modi completed his fifth-year absence when he visited Russia for the first time in 2024 since his last official meeting occurred at Vladivostok in 2019. Since their initial meeting both presidents have kept in close contact through telephone conversations as well as by holding personal meetings during international events to strengthen their joint commitments across different sectors.
