MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee pared all its initial gains to settle lower by 14 paise at 81.92 (provisional) against the American Dollar on Tuesday, tracking strength in crude oil prices.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.84 against the dollar and finally closed at 81.92 (provisional), down 14 paise from its previous close.
During the day, the rupee witnessed a high of 81.70 and a low of 81.82 against the greenback.
On Monday, the rupee closed at 81.78 against the US currency.
The Dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.07 per cent to 101.44.
Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.40 per cent to USD 76.75 per barrel.
The BSE Sensex was trading 57.62 points, or 0.09 per cent higher at 61,821 points on the domestic market whereas NSE Nifty was seen at an upside trend of 22.80 points.
