Mumbai: The domestic unit on Tuesday collapsed to a new record closing low, after hitting its weakest level earlier in the session.
The rupee slipped below the 82-level for the first time against the American currency. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency opened at 81.90, then fell further to close at an all-time low of 81.90 against the American currency, registering a decline of 37 paise over its previous close.
Meanwhile, gold prices fell to seven months low in the Indian market. In the international market, spot gold was down 0.5 per cent to $1,620.88 per ounce at 0634 GMT, after hitting its lowest since April 2020. US gold futures dropped 0.4 per cent to $1,629.70
