New Delhi: According to the data released by a civic body today, five more deaths have been reported in the national capital, taking the total number of deaths due to dengue to six in Delhi. This is the highest number of dengue deaths reported in the past four years. While 10 dengue deaths were reported in 2017, 4 in 2018, 2 in 2019, and one in 2020.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a meeting today to access the dengue situation in Delhi. During this meeting, the minister suggested on-ground initiatives like hotspot identification, fogging, and timely treatment to control the vector-borne disease. After the meeting, the minister tweeted, “Centre is also sending a team of experts to States with rising Dengue cases”.

Meanwhile in Punjab, the dengue case count has reached the highest since 2017. Sources reveal that there have been 61 suspected dengue deaths in Punjab this year out of which 21 deaths happened in the past 5 days. The total dengue cases in 2017 were 15,398 in the whole year. however, the state has already crossed this count till October 2021. Experts believe that the cases are going to increase till November this year.

Madhya Pradesh has also witnessed alarming dengue cases this year. MP recorded its highest ever dengue count; 5,690, accounting for 9.5 per cent of the overall dengue cases across India in 2021. In terms of numbers and percentages, Uttar Pradesh stands on the top with 8,977 cases accounting for 14.9 per cent of the overall dengue cases. Followed by Maharashtra (8,301, 13.8 per cent). MP is third on the national list but owns an unevious tag of being the dengue capital of the country.
