The father of a trainee doctor who was reportedly raped and killed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 last year said the CBI let him down over the progress made in the case. A news agency has reported that the victim’s father has complained that the CBI has not done much in the investigation.
His comments were made at a time when the Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court was to give its verdict in the sensitive rape and murder case. Though he was dissatisfied with the kind of investigation conducted, the father said that it again depended on the court on what the guilty deserved.
“The CBI has not done anything about this. Much to the disappointment of the family, there can be no question of satisfaction here,” he quoted him as saying regarding the disillusioning experience of the family. He also pointed out that they had filed several objections with the Calcutta High Court as well as the Supreme Court over the case. “Here, we have sought answers from the court itself. However, we did not ask questions from the CBI, but the court imposed every question on the CBI,” he continued.
The father pledged that his family would continue to run to the courts for justice after asserting that his daughter was killed by the police. “We will continue to seek justice from this court next year,” he said.
It was a tragic incident that led to anger and protests in different parts of Kolkata and for justice to be taken against the young doctor. They finally had to take the case for investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation after much public and legal pressure. As the court waits for its time to pronounce its verdict on the RG Kar case, the family and the public hold on to a glimmer of hope that at least there will be justice for the girl.
