After the Supreme Court raised objection over his remarks on the judiciary, Telangana provincial Chief Minister Revanth Reddy tendered an apology on Friday. The Supreme Court had berated him during a hearing on a petition that wanted a trial concerning a 2015 cash-for-vote scandal to be moved out of the Telangana state.
In the statement made on X, Reddy pointed out that he has a lot of respect for the Indian judiciary and never had any intention of making any mockery of it. “As for India judiciary I have full confidence and utmost respect,” he added. “It has come to my notice due to some press reports dated of August 29, 2024 containing comment attributed to me that I tend to doubt judicial wisdom of Hon’ble Court. It may kindly be recoded that I am a believer in judicial process, therefore, without any reservation, I express my unequivocal apology for the statements referred to in the press reports above. ”
Reddy also sought to defend himself, saying that he had been misunderstood and that he had the utmost respect for the judiciary. He stressed on his loyalty towards the Constitution and was particular in expressing his regard towards the judicial branch.
This apology comes after the Supreme Court in a rather biting remark to Reddy, demanded an explanation for his statement misconstruing the bail granted BR’s leader K Kavitha in the Delhi excise policy case. The bench asked Reddy as to whether he wanted to suggest that the political considerations influenced the judicial pronouncements. “Do we go by political considerations,” Justice Gavai quoted Reddy saying, showing the severity of the allegations made against him.
The bench, which was comprised of PK Mishra and KV Viswanathan, was visibly annoyed by the comment made by Revanth Reddy regarding the alleged nexus between BRS and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the granting of bail to Kavitha.
