NEW DELHI: According to IMD heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.
In West Bengal, Bankura, Bardhaman, Birbhum, Purulia, Murshidabad, Nadia, West Midnapore, Jhargram, East Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas are projected to experience severe Heat wave conditions during April 20-21.
As per the latest updates, eastern areas of Uttar Pradesh, Central and East India, interior parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra are expected to experience temperatures between 40-44 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai experienced heatwave conditions, with the suburban Santacruz observatory recording a temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius. Navi Mumbai sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
Meanwhile, respite in heat is likely as the weather watchdoge predicted thunderstorms and light rain are over parts of north India. Besides, IMD has also forecast thunderstorms in parts of Andhra Pradesh on April 21-22.
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh received a fresh spell of snow during the day and the mid and lower hills experienced widespread rains. Due to rain, maximum temperatures plummeted across the state on Wednesday and stayed 6 to 15 notches below normal in most places in the mid and higher hills. IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places on April 20 and 21, predicting a wet spell till April 25.
Several states have been reeling under scorching heat for the past several days.
