The disruption caused by the monsoon season in North India is also still persisting, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued several warnings regarding heavy rains in the region. Extremely heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides are predicted in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and a red alert has been raised. Both the hill states are on high alert because September is forecast to bring more rain, and more natural disasters are likely to occur.

In the case of the Delhi-NCR region, which comprises Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, IMD has put out a heavy rainfall alert. Gurugram, especially, was plagued by terrible waterlogging and traffic jams, following over 100 mm of precipitation falling on the city in a space of only four hours between 3 PM and 7 PM on Monday. Seven-kilometre-long traffic jams contributed to the misery of people. To be on the safer side, the District Disaster Management Authority has ordered all schools, colleges, and offices in Gurugram to be closed on Tuesday, and they have issued work-from-home advisories.

Likewise, schools have been closed down in various other states. Chandigarh officials declared a total school shutdown on Tuesday, and both government and non-government schools in Jammu and Kashmir will also be closed because of the heavy rainfall and the threat of landslides. It has been suggested that schools in the area should hold online classes wherever possible. Delhi has declared a flood alarm because the Yamuna River has gone beyond the danger level, and evacuation has begun in the low-lying places on the banks of the river.

Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are now red-alerting heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will visit flood-affected areas between September 2 and 4. He has planned to visit Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Sri Anandpur Sahib to check the situation.
